  • Prince was the greatest ever but it was wrong for him to not give musician credits in his music. Being a professional musician is a gift. Some of the music you can clearly hear Levi and Sheila playing but didn’t get credit. Jesse Johnson said he played guitar and sang background on 1999 and didn’t get credit

    • Look up some of Prince’s music in the copyright database. He was generous as many people do have credit on songs. The never talk about the songs they get credit for and unfortunatly, it is industry practice for songwriters to give up credit or partial credit to record companies, producers and the artist they work for. Quite frankly, many of these people could have registered their compositions prior to playing them for Prince. Nothing stops anyone from registering their work and if they were so unhappy why did they stay around for so long?. I would leave if I was not being compensated well and I think they were being compenstated well and they took that upfront money in lieu of copyrights. They could have did what Jesse did. Learn something and move on.

        • No, I know what the I am talking about and you do not. Look up some of the songs and see that some of these folks did get credit. In addition, giving up credit to get work or get your foot in the door is a music industry practice. Mariah Carey was a ghost singer and songwriter for a few a acts before getting her record deal. Also there was nothing stoping these folks for working a writing and production deal with Prince or just going off and copyrighting their songs on their own. Some made bad business decisions and some are bitter. Some are just making their living playing his music the bulk of which was written by someone who no less then 20 hours a damm day. He simply outworked and out though everybody else nothing more and nothing less. Oh if you do not have the copyright on something you do not own it.
