The Prince Podcast – Madhouse Albums Review

From the vault episode…

On January 21,1987 Paisley Park/Warners Bros records released the debut album by a band called Madhouse.  Simply titled ‘8’, the album was an instrumental jazz/funk affair. The 1st single ‘6’ hit the top 5 of the Billboard Hot black singles chart. Tho Prince is not mentioned on the album, he in fact wrote and plays all the instruments expect the horn and flute parts, which are preformed by Eric Leeds. A 2nd album titled ’16’ was released within the same year. Michael Dean, Big Ken and BigSexy review both albums.

  • Just listened to this episode last week. Great stuff!! And crazy enough, I just picked up a pristine copy of Madhouse 8 for $25. It is indeed a great album. Hearing the inside info about the making of this album made me listen to it very closely, which makes me appreciate it even more.
